On February 23, 2018, Alexandre Machado of Brazil will fight for the vacant ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship. For him to win the belt, he has to defeat ONE Middleweight World Champion Aung La N Sang of Myanmar.
Machado is not underestimating the challenge ahead of him. The Brazilian heavyweight champion has nothing but good words about his Burmese opponent.
“He’s a hero and a remarkable human being and it is an honor to compete against him,” Machado said of Aung. “He deserves the biggest challenge and I am prepared to give it to him. This will be a beautiful showcase of the highest level of martial arts.”
For the ONE Light Heavyweight World Champion belt, Aung and Machado will headline “ONE: Quest for Gold” at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar. For the Brazilian contender, this is the biggest match of his life.
“After years of experience, my career all comes down to this,” Machado noted. “As such, I am training extremely hard for this bout, and I know how well-received Aung La N Sang is in his home country.”
With a penchant for scoring spectacular submissions and highlight-reel knockouts, Machado is a rare breed of martial artist. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, he currently sports a 8-2 professional record, and will be making his much-anticipated return to the ONE Championship cage.
In Machado’s last bout, he defeated the hulkish Alain Ngalani via second-round technical knockout. After a period away from competition, Machado is back and ready to challenge the reigning ONE Middleweight World Champion in the light heavyweight division.
