Hailing from Bulacan, Philippines, Sophia Senoron, 17, is currently in India to represent the Philippines in the inaugural Miss Multinational 2017-2018. She will compete against 12 other contestants from around the world.

On October 18, 2017 at Annabel’s restaurant in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Senoron attended the send-off party for Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann and Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2017 Teresita Marquez, who eventually became and Reina Hispanoamericana 2017. During the event, I asked Senoron five random questions, one of which was whether or not men and women are treated equally today.

“We need to come to an understanding that it depends where you are in life,” Senoron said. “I want to say yes, that men and women are treated equally right now. But it depends on your approach. There are men who are oppressed, but there are also women.”

“And I think that perspective is the reason why we believe, I believe, that men and women are treated equally because when you look at yourself as oppressed, and I don’t consider myself as a minority as a woman, then I don’t also think that women are dominant and I don’t also  think that men are a minority,” Senoron explained. “It’s the way that you as an individual will perceive it and that’s how you can consider if there is equality. So, for me, there is equality because for me, I don’t consider myself as a minority nor do I consider the male specie a dominant.”

On February 26, 2018, the Miss Multinational 2017-2018 winner will be crowned at the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurugram, Haryana. Attending the coronation night to support Senoron is Miss World Philippines national director Arnold Vegafria.

For Miss Multinational 2017-2018, Senoron received much support from Lehmann, Marquez and their other Miss World Philippines sisters Glyssa Leian Perez and Cynthia Thomalla. Senoron is a Financial Management student at San Beda University, a private Roman Catholic university run by the Benedictine monks in Mendiola, Manila, Philippines.

At San Beda University, Senoron is a varsity debater. Watch how she answered my on-the-spot random questions here:
