ONE Championship recently held an open workout for Vietnamese-Australian fighter Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 28, at the Saigon Sports Club in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The reigning ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion has a scheduled matchup against ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 37, set for the main event of “ONE: Iron Will” on March 24, 2018 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
“I have worked with a lot of professional athletes and Martin Nguyen is a guy that the world didn’t see coming,” Saigon Sports Club founder and chief executive officer Tri Trinh said. “I would say he’s part of the new generation in martial arts.”
“The world is going to break down his style and learn from him,” Trinh said of Nguyen. “Since he’s already dethroned two world champions in two different weights classes via knockout, I think we can expect another one this March 24th.”
Nguyen is one of the most highly-regarded martial arts champions in the world. With an impressive 10-1 professional record, which includes 3 submissions and 6 knockouts, he has an all-around skill set that allows him to perform at the highest level of competition.
In Nguyen’s most recent bout, he scored a scintillating knockout victory over the Philippines’ Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 33, to become the first man in the history of ONE Championship to hold two titles simultaneously in two different weight divisions. The second fighter of the promotion to achieve such a feat is Myanmar’s “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang, 32, who is now the reigning ONE Middleweight and ONE Light Heavyweight World Champion.
After becoming the ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion, Nguyen will attempt to make history once again. In his next bid for greatness, he will try to dethrone the reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion at “ONE: Iron Will.”
