The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), will return to Malaysia’s bustling capital city of Kuala Lumpur. On March 9, 2018, “ONE: Visions of Victory” will ignite the Axiata Stadium with another evening of authentic martial arts action.
In the main event, Filipino-Australian Reece “Lightning” McLaren, 26, of Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia will face Gianni Subba, 25, of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They will battle it out in three five-minute rounds in the flyweight division.
McLaren sports a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a BJJ record of 270-28-0. In the cage, he owns a professional record of 10-5.
In 2015, McLaren made his ONE Championship debut with a spectacular submission victory over Filipino-American Mark “Mugen” Striegl, 29, and then followed up that win with a unanimous decision victory over the highly-regarded talent Muin “Tajik” Gafurov, 21, of Tajikistan.
In December 2016, McLaren challenged Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 37, of Brazil for the ONE Bantamweight World Championship, falling by split decision. In the Filipino-Australian fighter’s most recent bout, he impressed in his flyweight debut, submitting top contender Anatpong “Mak Mak” Bunrad, 31, of Thailand with a first round brabo choke.
On the other hand, Subba is a seasoned athlete with a stellar 9-2 clip in his young career. He won 6 of his last 7 bouts.
Five of Subba’s 9 wins have come either by submission or by crowd-pleasing knockout. He spends time carefully honing his craft with talented teammates including brother Keanu Subba at Bali MMA in Indonesia.
“ONE: Visions of Victory” will be McLaren’s sixth ONE Championship bout and Subba’s 12 fight under the promotion. Watch the trailer for the upcoming MMA event here:
