It was a sweet victory for ONE Championship athlete Agilan “Alligator” Thani of Malaysia. On March 9, 2018, the wrestler and mixed martial artist won in front of his countrymen at “ONE: Visions of Victory” at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The action began with strikes at the center of the ONE Championship cage as Chaubey goaded Thani into a striking exchange. Once the Malaysian wrestler was able to close the distance, he dumped his Indian opponent onto the mat and easily transitioned into full mount.
From top position, Thani blasted Chaubey with ground strikes to finish the round. The second round saw much of the same from the Malaysian MMA fighter but after another overhead slam that ended in side control, he immediately sourced an Americana to force the tap.
The victory improved Thani’s professional MMA record to 9 wins and 1 loss. He made his professional MMA debut on December 7, 2013 at “F3 4: Freestyle Full Contact Fight” where he knocked out Abdul Matin.
On March 13, 2015, Thani made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Age of Champions” where he knocked out Reant Febriza Rainir. After this, he defeated his next five opponents under the promotion namely Hesham Hiba, James Kouame, Brad Robinson, Trestle Tan and Jeff Huang.
On May 26, 2017, Thani challenged reigning ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben “Funky” Askren at “ONE: Dynasty of Heroes”. The champion submitted the challenger via arm-triangle choke in the first round.
Coming from the loss to ONE Championship’s welterweight king, Thani redeemed himself at “ONE: Quest for Greatness” on August 18, 2017. The Malaysian MMA fighter defeated Sherif Mohamed via unanimous decision.
Chaubey made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Visions of Victory”. He now has 5 wins and 5 losses.
