Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige, 28, is known as the ONE Championship fighter with a pretty face and fearless confidence inside the cage. But for the Thai-Japanese fighter, fear is inevitable so the fighter needs to manage it properly.
“Yes, there is fear, but it has been managed in such a way that I do not really feel it anymore,” Ishige explained. “There has to be some level of fear being in there, but you have to manage it.”
“You have to be careful in the cage,” Ishige pointed out. “For me, there is always a certain level of uncertainty because you never know what is going to happen.
Ishige looks to continue her winning ways when she takes on newcomer Angelie Sabnal, 28, of the Philippines on March 24, 2018 at “ONE: Iron Will” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. This is the third time the Thai-Japanese fighter is facing a Filipino opponent.
“ONE: Iron Will” marks Ishige’s fourth appearance inside the ONE Championship cage. Her previous opponents are Filipino fighters Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres, 21, and Rome “The Rebel” Trinidad, 21, as well as Indonesian contender Nita Dea, 27.
Ishige is taking her new assignment very seriously. She acknowledges the danger that her Filipina foe presents.
Aside from Ishige, there are three other Thai fighters in the “ONE: Iron Will” fight card. They are Shannon “One Shin” Wiratchai, 29, Dejdamrong “Kru Rong” Sor Amnuaysirichoke, 39, and Kritsada “Dream Man” Kongsrichai, 26.
Thailand has always been a hotbed for martial arts in Southeast Asia as it is renowned for being the birthplace of Muay Thai. The nation has famously produced some of the finest athletes in combat sports, but in recent years, a plethora of competitors have made the transition to ONE Championship and have experienced great success inside the cage.
“ONE: Iron Will” will be headlined by reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 37, of Brazil and reigning ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 28, of Australia.
