John Phillips vs Charles Byrd at ‘UFC Fight Night 127’

On March 17, 2018, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will hold its ninth 2018 event titled “UFC Fight Night 127” at the O2 Arena in London, England. It will be the 10th UFC event to take place in London.

Out of the 12 bouts on the fight card, there is one match in the middleweight division. It is between John Phillips, 32, of Swansea, Wales and Charles “Kid Dynamite” Byrd, 34, of Texas, United States.

Both Phillips and Byrd are making their UFC debut at “UFC Fight Night 127.” It will be Phillips’ 28th bout and Byrd’s 14th bout as professional mixed martial artists.

Phillips currently holds a record of 21 wins and 6 losses. On the other hand, Byrd has 9 wins and 4 losses.

The last time Phillips lost in the cage was on May 4, 2013 when he was submitted by Jesse “JT Money” Taylor, 35, of the U.S. via guillotine choke at “CWFC 54: Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 54.” After this, Phillips defeated his next four opponents namely Charlie “Relentless” Ward, 37, of Ireland, Markus “Mafia” Di Gallo, 39, of Austria, Cheick “Animal” Kone, 34, Cote D’Ivoire and Jose “Javali” Otavio dos Santos Lacerda, 33, of Brazil.

Byrd won his three most recent bouts, which were against his fellow Americans Quentin “The Hero” Henry, 28, Jamie Pickett, 29, and Randall “Buddy” Wallace, 29. The las time Byrd lost in the cage was on May 8, 2015 at “AXS TV Fights: RFA vs Legacy Superfight” where judges gave a unanimous decision win to his opponent Bojan “Serbian Steel” Velickovic, 29, of Serbia.

The middleweight bout between Phillips and Byrd will be the seventh and the last match on the preliminary card. It will be followed by the welterweight bout between Leon Edwards and Peter Sobotta.

“UFC Fight Night 127” will be headlined by former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum, 40, a Brazilian fighting out of Los Angeles, California, and former Bellator Heavyweight Champion Alexander “Drago” Volkov, 29, of Moscow, Russia. Here is a teaser for the event:
