On March 15, 2018, ONE Championship held a worldwide media conference call for “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” featuring reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela “Unstoppable” Lee, 21, of Singapore and challenger Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi, 35, of Tokyo, Japan. Also on the call was ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong, 47.
During the conference call, Yamaguchi emphasized how she respects Lee as a martial artist and as a person. On the other hand, the Japanese martial arts veteran is confident that she has what it takes to dethrone the reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion.
Yamaguchi pointed out that it has been two years after the first fight between her and Lee. According to the former, both of them had much time to learn and improve not only their fighting skills but also their way to entertain the fight fans.
“I’ve been fighting in a lot of BJJ tournaments, karate tournaments and I fought two MMA fights,” Yamaguchi revealed. “But I know that a lot of people want to see who can stop the ‘Unstoppable’ Lee so I believe I’m going to be the one.”
Currently, Yamaguchi has 17 wins and 10 losses. Inside the ONE Championship cage, she has 2 wins and 2 losses.
“I’m very honored be involved in ONE Championship, the largest martial arts organisation in the world,” Yamaguchi said. “Thank you so much. It’s really nice to go back to Singapore again. There’s a lot of respect and honour and I feel really excited challenging the title again because the champion is Angela Lee.”
Lee currently holds 8 wins and 0 loss. All of her fights were inside the ONE Championship cage.
Both Lee and Yamaguchi were both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belts when they first fought at “ONE: Ascent to Power” on March 6, 2016. Now, they are both officially BJJ black belts, Sityodtong confirmed.
On May 18, 2018, Lee and Yamaguchi will headline “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Here is a clip featuring Lee and her fellow ONE Championship champions:
