On March 24, 2018, Gilberto “Giba” Galvao, 36, of Brazil fought inside the ONE Championship cage for the third time. He competed against Jake Butler, 35, of New Yersey, United States in the middleweight division at “ONE: Iron Will” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
With Kemp Cheng as the referee, the middleweight bout between Butler and Galvao was the second bout of the evening. The Brazilian fighter knocked out his American opponent via knee injury at 0:07 of Round 2.
While “ONE: Iron Will” marked Galvao’s third ONE Championship bout, it marked Butler’s 10th fight in the promotion. The Brazilian fighter made his promotion debut on September 2, 2016 at “ONE: Unbreakable Warriors” where he won via unanimous decision over Tatsuya Mizuno.
On August 5, 2017, Galvao returned to the ONE Championship cage and had his first loss in the promotion. He was knocked out via punch by Marcin Prachnio at “ONE: Kings and Conquerors.”
After defeating Butler, Galvao now has 30 wins and 6 losses. On the other hand, Butler’s record downgraded to 7 wins and 3 losses.
On January 29, 2016, Mizuno lost to Butler via technical knockout via elbows at “ONE: Clash of Heroes.” On August 27, 2016, Prachnio knocked out Butler via knees at “ONE: Titles and Titans.”
Butler made his promotional debut on February 2, 2013. He knocked out Antoni Romulo via punches at “ONE: Return of Warriors.”
After Romulo, Butler defeated his next two opponents Swain Cangco and James Koaume via technical knockout via punches and arm triangle submission, respectively. on October 18, 2013, Butler had his first loss in his career when he was knocked out by Sylvain Potard at “ONE: Total Domination.”
On December 5, 2014, Butler defeated Potard in their rematch at “ONE: Warrior’s Way” via unanimous decision. Prior to this, the former knocked out Mohamed Ali via punches at “ONE: War of Dragons.”
After a successful rematch with Potard, Butler faced Cristiano Kaminishi at “ONE: Odyssey of Champions.” Butler won the fight via unanimous decision.
