Garry Tonon has already established his name as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend. However, he has yet to fight in a mixed martial arts bout until “ONE: Iron Will,” which took place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on March 24, 2018. In his MMA debut, he faced Richard “Notorious” Corminal of the Philippines.
Tonon and Corminal competed in the lightweight division. The bout ended at 3:40 of Round 2 when Tonon knocked out Corminal via strikes.
While “ONE: Iron Will” marked Tonon’s MMA debut, it was not the first time he competed inside the ONE Championship cage. On May 26, 2017, he made his promotional debut at “ONE: Dynasty of Heroes” where he defeated Shinya Aoki in the promotion’s inaugural grappling super-bout.
On the other hand, Corminal made his promotional debut on March 11, 2017. He lost to Shannon “One Shin” Wiratchai via knockout via punch at “ONE: Warrior Kingdom.”
In Corminal’s second bout in the promotion, he was submitted by Arnaud LePont via arm-triangle choke at “ONE: Immortal Pursuit” on November 24, 2017. After losing to Tonon at “ONE: Iron Will,” Corminal now has 4 wins and 4 losses.
The main event of “ONE: Iron Will” was a superfight between ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes of Brazil and ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen of Vietnam and Australia. It was the fifth event of ONE Championship in 2018.
