New Jersey’s Garry Tonon TKOs Philippines’ Richard Corminal in Bangkok, Thailand

Garry Tonon, 26 of Monroe Township, New Jersey, United States has already established his name as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend but he had yet to fight in a mixed martial arts bout before “ONE: Iron Will” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on March 24, 2018. In his MMA debut, he faced Richard “Notorious” Corminal, 36, of the Philippines.

Tonon and Corminal competed in the lightweight division. The bout ended at 3:40 of Round 2 when the American contender defeated his Filipino opponent via technical knockout via strikes.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu superstar put forth a dominant striking performance. He unveiled a new dimension to his evolving skill set by putting together dynamic combinations. 

From the get-go, Tonon overwhelmed Corminal with punishing strikes, blasting the Filipino MMA fighter with rocking right hands and cracking kicks. In the second round, the fighter from Monroe Township took matters to the ground and quickly got mount, finishing his Filipino opponent with a pair of elbows.

While “ONE: Iron Will” marked Tonon’s MMA debut, it was not the first time he competed inside the ONE Championship cage. On May 26, 2017, he made his promotional debut at “ONE: Dynasty of Heroes” where he defeated Shinya Aoki in the promotion’s inaugural grappling super-bout.

On the other hand, Corminal made his promotional debut on March 11, 2017. He lost to Shannon “One Shin” Wiratchai via knockout via punch at “ONE: Warrior Kingdom.”

In Corminal’s second bout in the promotion, he was submitted by Arnaud LePont via arm-triangle choke at “ONE: Immortal Pursuit” on November 24, 2017. After losing to Tonon at “ONE: Iron Will”, the Filipino MMA fighter now has 4 wins and 4 losses.
