Hailing from Candelaria, Quezon, Manalo was crowned Binibining Pilipinas-International 2018 on March 18, 2018 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila. She will represent the Philippines in the 58th edition of Miss International, an international beauty pageant based in Tokyo, Japan.
During the question-and-answer portion of the Binibining Pilipinas 2018 coronation night, Manalo was asked how a beauty queen should respond to ruthless criticisms. She responded, “A beauty queen should always respond to criticism constructively.”
“We beauty queens are public figures and we put ourselves in the position to be judged,” Manalo continued. “But nonetheless, we should always… we should always filter which… which comments we should accept and what we should not.”
Manalo admitted that she stammered a bit and took a pause during the question-and-answer portion. But, as the host of the evening Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach noticed, she eventually recovered and ended her answer gracefully.”
When the Binibining Pilipinas 2018 queens appeared on “News to Go,” a newscast show broadcast by GMA Network, Manalo explained that she stopped halfway while answering because she was looking for a word that she could not think of. Asked what she learned from the experience, she said she should read more so that she will have a lot of words to pick from.
Manalo just graduated from the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation with a degree in Accountancy before joining Binibining Pilipinas 2018. She joined Binibining Niyogyugan in 2016 and Reyna ng Aliwan 2017.
If Manalo wins Miss International 2018, she will be the seventh contestant from the Philippines to do so. She will follow Gemma Teresa Cruz, Aurora Pijuan, Melanie Marquez, Precious Lara Quigaman, Bea Rose Santiago and Kylie Versoza, who won the crown in 1964, in 1970, in 1979, in 2005, in 2013 and in 2016, respectively.
