ONE Championship will introduce its five-rope ring during the ONE Super Series debut at “ONE: Heroes of Honor” at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 20, 2018. The promotion has booked a trio of much awaited striking-only contests.
One of the bouts is the marquee match-up between Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan, 32, of Italy and “Smokin’” Jo Nattawut, 27, of the United States. The former is Armenian and the latter is Thai.
“When I step into the ring, I always want to win,” Petrosyan guaranteed. “I always focus on the quality of opponent that I will face. In this case, I can tell you that you will see a Giorgio Petrosyan different than usual.”
Originally from Armenia, Petrosyan was 13 when he immigrated to Italy with his family. His name carries a special weight to kickboxing fans as he was the undeniable pound-for-pound king of the sport for four years.
The Armenian-Italian kickboxer is known for his supreme technical skills, ring generalship and defensive prowess, which has seen him defeat some of the best strikers in the world while taking little-to-no damage. He has been lacing up the gloves since he was 16.
Over the course of a stellar kickboxing career, Petrosyan has amassed a phenomenal record of 85 wins, 2 losses and 2 No Contest and is famed for his 6-year 42-bout winning streak. From 2009 to 2013, he established himself as the world’s top middleweight with two consecutive K-1 World MAX World Championship tournament titles.
Following It’s Showtime and K-1’s demise, Petrosyan then joined Glory Kickboxing in 2012 and further cemented his place as the best 154-pound kickboxer by winning the Glory 2012 Lightweight Slam tourney. He is returning to the international kickboxing spotlight as he makes his debut for the ONE Super Series.
