Adrian Pang, 40, of Brisbane, Australia and Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 28, of the Philippines will compete in the lightweight division at “ONE: Heroes of Honor” at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Suffering from a three-match losing skid, Pang admitted that having his back against the wall adds a bit of sting as he enters a cage duel with Banario.
“It is funny,” Pang said. “I have never lost three in a row in my career, but here we are. Now, I am facing someone who is on a winning streak.”
Pang lost to his three most recent opponents namely Eduard Folayang, Roger Huerta and Amir Khan. On the other hand, Banario defeated his four most recent opponents namely Vaughn Donayre, Eddie Ng, Rajinder Singh Meena and Jaroslav Jartim.
Banario has experienced a career resurgence ever since recreating himself as a lightweight, acing his last four outings under the promotion’s banner. Referring to Banario, Pang said, “He comes forward.”
“He tries to engage standing, grappling and everything,” Pang said of Banario. “Let’s hope he does the same thing here and we will just collide in the middle.”
Both Folayang and Banario are from Team Lakay. Pang is aware of the reputation of the famed mixed martial arts team based in Baguio City, Philippines.
“I know he comes to bring it,” Pang said of Banario. “That whole team does, so I am definitely excited about it.”
With 35 professional bouts, Pangs knows that he has far less time in front of him than what is left behind in his MMA run. However, he reiterated that it is still too early to call it a career as he looks to put on thrilling matches that will keep fans buzzing.
“ONE: Heroes of Honor” will be headlined by Andrew Leone, 28, of the United States and Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, who is also from Team Lakay. Meanwhile, here is a clip featuring highlights of Pang’s ONE Championship bouts:
