After a series of twists and turns, the “UFC 223” fight card is left with nine bouts including the main event and co-main event. The second bout on the preliminary card is between Bec “Rowdy” Rawlings, 29, and Ashlee “Rebel Girl” Evans-Smith, 30, who will compete in the flyweight division.
Rawlings is fighting out of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. When she made her UFC debut at “The Ultimate Fighter: A Champion Will Be Crowned Finale,” she lost to Heather Jo “Hurricane” Clark, 37, of Los Angeles, California via unanimous decision.
After losing to Clark, Rawlings bounced back by defeating Lisa Ellis, 35, of Olympia, Washington and Seo Hee Ham, 31, of Busan, South Korea. However, these two victories were followed by losses to Paige “12 Gauge” VanZant, 24, of Portland, Oregon, Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres, 28, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jessica-Rose “Jessy Jess” Clark, 30, of, of Cairns, Australia.
Currently, Rawlings has 7 wins and 7 losses while Evans-Smith has 5 wins and 3 losses. The latter is fighting out of Lake Forest, California.
Like Rawlings, Evans-Smith lost her most recent bouts. In 2017, the fighter from Lake Forest lost to Ketlen “Fenomeno” Viera, 26, of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil at “UFC on Fox 24” and to Sarah “Cheesecake” Moras, 29, of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada at “UFC 215.”
When Evans-Smith made her UFC debut at “UFC 181” in 2014, she was submitted by Raquel “Rocky” Pennington, 29, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 2016, Evans-Smith returned to the cage and defeated Marion “The Bruiser” Reneau, 40, of Visalia, California at “UFC Fight Night 83” and Veronica Macedo, 22, of Venezuela at “UFC Fight Night 93.”
Taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 7, 2018, “UFC 223” will be headlined by Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 29, of Dagestan, Russia and Al Iaquinta, 30, of New York City, New York and co-headlined by reigning UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Rose “Thug” Namajunas, 25, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Joanna Jedrzejczyk, 30, of Olsztyn, Poland.
