Joe Lauzon vs Chris Gruetzemacher at ‘UFC 223’

After a series of twists and turns, the “UFC 223” fight card is left with nine bouts including the main event and co-main event. The first bout of the main card is a match between Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon, 33, and Chris “Gritz” Gruetzemacher, 31.

Fighting out of Surprise, Arizona, Gruetzemacher holds a professional record of 13 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Lauzon is fighting out of Bridgewater, Massachusetts and has 27 wins and 14 losses.

At “UFC 223,” Lauzon and Gruetzemacher are competing in the lightweight division. Both of them are coming from two consecutive losses.

Lauzon’s two most recent opponents were Stevie “Braveheart” Ray, 28, of Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland and Clay “The Carpenter” Guida, 36, of Johnsburg, Illinois. Lauzon lost to Ray via majority decision at “UFC Fight Night 108” on April 22, 2017 and to Guida via technical knockout via punches and elbows at “UFC Fight Night 120” on November 11, 2017.

The last time Lauzon won a bout was on January 15, 2017 when he defeated Marcin “The Polish Prodigy” Held, 26, of Tychy, Poland via split decision at “UFC Fight Night 103.” The last time Gruetzemacher won a bout was on December 11, 2015 when he defeated Abner Lloveras via unanimous decision at “The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale.”

Gruetzemacher’s two most recent opponents were Chas “The Scrapper” Skelly, 32, of Keller, Texas and Davi “The Tasmanian Devil” Ramos, 31, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Gruetzemacher lost to Skelly at “UFC Fight Night 104” on February 4, 2017 and to Ramos at “UFC Fight Night 123” on December 9, 2017 both via rear-naked choke submission.

Taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 7, 2018, “UFC 223” will be headlined by Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 29, of Dagestan, Russia and Al Iaquinta, 30, of New York City, New York and co-headlined by reigning UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Rose “Thug” Namajunas, 25, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Joanna Jedrzejczyk, 30, of Olsztyn, Poland. Watch the weigh-ins here:
