After a series of twists and turns, the “UFC 223” fight card is left with nine bouts including the main event and co-main event. Three of these nine matches are between female fighters including strawweight bout between Karolina “KK” Kowalkiewicz, 32, and Felice “Lil Bulldog” Herrig, 33.
Fighting out of Lodz, Poland, Kowalkiewicz was the Women’s Flyweight Champion of the Polish mixed martial arts promotion Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki (KSW) from June 8, 2013 to May 17, 2014. When she made her UFC debut on December 19, 2015, she lost to Randa “Quiet Storm” Markos-Thomas, 32, of Ontario, Canada.
On July 30, 2016, Kowalkiewicz won via split decision over Rose “Thug” Namajunas, 25, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the reigning UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion. After beating Namajunas, Kowalkiewicz lost via unanimous decision to Joanna Jedrzejczyk, 30, of Olsztyn, Poland, the former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion.
Kowalkiewicz currently holds a record of 11 wins and 2 losses while Herrig has 14 wins and 6 losses. The latter is fighting out of Crystal, Illinois.
From 2014 to 2017, Herrig fought six UFC bouts, winning five. The only opponent she did not defeat in the promotion was Paige “12 Gauge” VanZant, 24, of Portland, Oregon.
After losing to VanZant, Herrig submitted Kailin Curran, 26, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii via rear-naked choke. In 2017, Herrig enjoyed a three-fight winning streak defeating Alexa Grasso, 24, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Justine Kish, 29, of Los Angeles, California and Cortney “Cast Iron” Casey, 30, of Phoenix, Arizona.
Taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 7, 2018, “UFC 223” will be headlined by Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 29, of Dagestan, Russia and Al Iaquinta, 30, of New York City, New York and co-headlined by Namajunas and Jedrzejczyk. Watch the weigh-ins here:
