After a series of twists and turns, the “UFC 223” fight card is left with nine bouts including the main event and co-main event. The last bout on the undercard prior to the headliners is a featherweight bout between Renato “Moicano” Carneiro, 28, and Calvin “The Boston Finisher” Kattar, 30.
Fighting out of Brasilia, Distrito Federal, Brazil, Carneiro has fought four UFC bouts. On July 29, 2017, he entered the cage at “UFC 214” as an undefeated fighter with 11 wins.
“UFC 223” marks Carneiro’s fifth bout in the promotion. He made his promotional debut on December 20, 2014 at “UFC Fight Night 58” where he submitted Tom “Stoneface” Niinimaki, 35, via rear-naked choke.
Carneiro defeated Zubaira “Warrior” Tukhugov, 27, of Moscow, Russia at “UFC 198” on May 14, 2016 and Jeremy “Lil Heathen” Stephens, 31, of San Diego, California at “UFC on Fox 24” on April 15, 2017. Both bouts ended via split decision.
At “UFC 214,” Brian “T-City” Ortega, 27, of Torrance, California submitted Carneiro via guillotine choke giving him the first loss of his career. The latter is looking forward to redeeming himself as he faces Kattar at “UFC 223.”
While Carneiro holds a record of 11 wins and 1 loss, Kattar currently has 18 wins and 2 losses. The latter will fight his third bout in the promotion at “UFC 223.”
Kattar, who is fighting out of Methuen, Massachusetts, made his promotional debut on July 29, 2017. He defeated Andre “Touchy” Fili, 27, of Sacramento, California via unanimous decision at “UFC 214.”
On January 20, 2018, Kattar scored his second win in the promotion. He knocked out Shane “Hurricane” Burgos, 27, of Woodbury, New York via punches at “UFC 220.”
The last time Kattar lost a bout was on March 26, 2010 when Don Carlo-Clauss, 38, of Rochester, New York defeated him via split decision at “Xtreme Championship Fight League 1.” At “UFC 223,” Kattar aims to score his third UFC win.
