“UFC 223” marked the fifth time Renato “Moicano” Carneiro, 28, of Brasilia, Distrito Federal, Brazil competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He made his professional mixed martial arts debut on March 20, 2010.

Featuring nine MMA matches, “UFC 223” was held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, United States on April 7, 2018. In the seventh bout of the evening, Carneiro fought Calvin “The Boston Finisher” Kattar, 30, of Methuen, Massachusetts, USA in the featherweight division.
Todd Anderson served as the referee. After three five-minute rounds, he raised the hand of Carneiro, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
One of the judges scored the bout 29-28. The other two both scored it 30-27.
Losing to Carneiro at “UFC 223” downgraded Kattar’s professional MMA record to 18 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, the Brazilian MMA fighter now has 12 wins and 1 loss.
Carneiro’s UFC career started with three consecutive wins. He submitted Tom “Stoneface” Niinimaki, 35, via rear-naked choke at “UFC Fight Night 58” on December 20, 2014 before defeating Zubaira “Warrior” Tukhugov, 27, of Moscow, Russia at “UFC 198” on May 14, 2016 and Jeremy “Lil Heathen” Stephens, 31, of San Diego, California, USA at “UFC on Fox 24” on April 15, 2017 both via split decision.
Before “UFC 223,” Kattar was undefeated in the UFC. He won via unanimous decision when he made his promotional debut on July 29, 2017 against Andre “Touchy” Fili, 27, of Sacramento, California at “UFC 214”.
On January 20, 2018, Kattar earned his second UFC win. He knocked out Shane “Hurricane” Burgos, 27, of Woodbury, New York at “UFC 220”.
