“UFC 223” marked the ninth time Olivier “The Quebec Kid” Aubin-Mercier, 29, of Boucherville, Quebec, Canada competed inside the UFC cage. He earned his seventh UFC win by defeating Evan Dunham, 36, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Aubin-Mercier and Dunham competed in the lightweight division. The former knocked out the latter via knee and punches at 0:53 of Round 1 at “UFC 223.”
After defeating Dunham, Aubin-Mercier now has 11 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Dunham’s record downgraded to 18 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw.
Dunham’s UFC career started with four consecutive wins over Per Eklund, Marcus Aurelio, Efrain Escudero and Tyson Griffin. The winning streak ended when Dunham lost to Sean Sherk and Melvin Guillard.
The other opponents Dunham defeated in the UFC cage were Shamar Bailey, Nik Lentz, Gleison Tibau, Rodrigo Damm, Ross Pearson, Joe Lauzon and Rick Glenn. The other UFC fighters who defeated Dunham were T.J. Grant, Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone and Edson Barboza.
The bout against Dunham at “UFC 223” was Aubin-Mercier’s ninth UFC bout. The Canadian fighter had an unsuccessful promotional debut on April 16, 2014 when he lost via split decision to Chad Laprise.
Aside from Laprise, the other fighter who defeated Aubin-Mercier was Carlos Diego Ferreira. On January 30, 2016, Aubin-Mercier lost to Ferreira via unanimous decision at “UFC on Fox 18.”
“UFC 223” took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 7, 2018. In the main event, undefeated fighter Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 29, of Dagestan, Russia fought for the UFC Lightweight Championship against Al Iaquinta, 30, of New York City, New York.
