On April 13, 2018, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Lucas “Mineiro” Martins, 29, became the new Interim Lightweight Champion of Brave Combat Federation. He earned the belt by defeating Luan “Miau” Santiago, 23, in the main event of “Brave CF 11,” which took place at Terrace, Mineirao Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The lightweight bout between Martins and Santiago was a five-round affair. It ended at 4:56 of Round 5 when the referee had to stop it due to Santiago’s injury.
After defeating Santiago, Martins now has 20 wins and 3 losses. “Brave CF 11” marked his second bout in the Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion.
Fighting out of Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Martins made his Brave CF debut on March 18, 2017. He submitted Fabian Galvan via brabo choke at 4:42 of Round 2 at “Brave 3: Battle in Brazil” at the Max Rosenmann Sports and Leisure Gymnasium in Sao Jose Dos Pinhais, Parana, Brazil.
Fighting out of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, Santiago had two Brave CF bouts prior to “Brave CF 11.” He made his promotional debut at “Brave 3: Battle in Brazil,” where he knocked out Ivan Castillo via punches.
At “Brave CF 8,” Santiago was supposed to face Erick Barbosa but the latter was replaced by Igor Soares, who eventually lost to Santiago via knockout via punches. After losing to Martins, Santiago now has 12 wins and 3 losses.
Martins also had two bouts in the promotion that were cancelled. He was supposed to fight Paulo Bananada at “Brave CF 3” and Elias Boudegzdame at “Brave CF 9.”
From 2013 to 2016, Martins fought 7 bouts in the UFC, winning 4. The UFC fighters he defeated were Jeremy Larsen, Ramiro Hernandez, Alex White and Robert Whiteford.
It is expected that Martins is going to face reigning Brave CF Lightweight Champion Ottman Azaitar for a title unification bout. Here is a clip featuring Martins and Santiago:
