25 April 2018 – Manila, Philippines: ONE Championship veteran Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon (18-5) of Team Lakay from Baguio City, Philippines turned in one of his most spectacular performances on April 20, 2018 in the main event of “ONE: Heroes of the Honor” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. The ferocious striker finished his opponent Andrew Leone (8-4) of the United States in the second round with a surreal spinning back kick and punch combination.
“I just reached a point in my career where my confidence is sky high, especially in my takedown defense,” Belingon stated. “Myself and my brothers at Team Lakay have worked extremely hard on improving our takedown defense, as well as our submission defense and wrestling. These have been the weakest areas of my skill set over the past few years.”
On his fighting style and how he likes to pace things, Belingon said he will take the action right to his opponents and will force them to adapt to what he brings to the table. He explained, “They have to make a decision. Do they fight back? Or do they try to take me down? The longer they take to think, the more I attack. They have to think quick because I’m hitting them with my hardest punches.”
According to Belingon, he has improved a lot since the first bout against reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano Fernandes of Brazil. The Team Lakay fighter said he could not wait to show the Brazilian champion how much he has changed and what he has become.
On January 23, 2016, Belingon lost to Fernandes via kimura submission at “ONE: Dynasty of Champions.” After the loss, the Team Lakay fighter established a five-fight winning streak beating Muin Gafurov, Toni Tauru, Reece McLaren, Kevin Chung and most recently, Leone.
