Riski “Kong” Umar defeated his fellow Indonesian mixed martial artist Doan Birawa at “ONE: Grit and Glory” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia on May 12, 2018. It was the third time Umar won a ONE Championship bout.

Umar and Birawa competed in the strawweight division, which is currently dominated by reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Alex Silva of Brazil. The strawweight bout between Umar and Birawa was put to a stop by referee Yuji Shimada at 1:22 of Round 2.

Birawa was submitted by Umar via rear-naked choke. This is the first time Umar won a professional MMA bout via submission.

On September 16, 2017, Umar made his successful ONE Championship debut. He knocked out his fellow Indonesian fighter Adi Nugroho via punches at 2:00 of Round 1 at “ONE: Total Victory” at the Jakarta Convention Center.

On January 20, 2018, Umar returned to the Jakarta Convention Center for “ONE: Kings of Courage.” He defeated his fellow Indonesian fighter Eka Aprilianto via technical knockout via punches at 4:20 of Round 1.

It was on March 9, 2018 when Umar had his first loss as a professional MMA fighter, which was also his first defeat in ONE Championship. He lost to Khun Sichan of Cambodia via unanimous decision at “ONE: Visions of Victory” at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

While “ONE: Grit and Glory” marked Umar’s fourth ONE Championship bout, it marked Birawa’s promotional debut. It was also the first professional MMA bout of Birawa.

In the co-main event of “ONE: Grit and Glory,” Stefer Rahardian of Indonesia competed against Himanshu Kaushik of India.

In the main event of the evening, Silva defended his title from former champion Yoshitaka Naito of Japan in a rematch.
