Shinya Aoki vs Shannon Wiratchai at ‘ONE: Reign of Kings’ in Manila, Philippines

The third event of ONE Championship in the Philippines in 2018 is titled “ONE: Reign of Kings.” Included in the stacked card is a lightweight bout between former ONE Lightweight World Champion Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Shizuoka, Japan and Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai, 29, of Bangkok, Thailand.

A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under the famed Yuki Nakai, Aoki is one of the world’s most decorated athletes. He is a DREAM Lightweight Champion, a Shooto Welterweight Champion and former ONE Lightweight World Champion.

Aoki has won multiple grappling tournaments all over the world. He also holds a black belt in judo and is widely considered one of the best pure grapplers in martial arts today.

As a professional mixed martial artist, Aoki owns a record of 40 wins, 8 losses and 1 No Contest. His 40 wins include 25 submissions and 3 technical knockouts.

In Aoki’s most recent bout, he finished Rasul Yakhyaev, 26, of Russia with a first-round triangle choke submission. Now, he looks to regain his status among the promotion’s top lightweights as he takes on a Thai rising star who is one of the most thrilling offensive innovators in ONE Championship.

Wiratchai is the creator of the OneShin Striking System, a martial arts style that incorporates various elements from Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Training out of Tiger Muay Thai and Bangkok Fight Lab, he has emerged as Thailand’s biggest and most exciting martial arts star.

In Wiratchai’s most recent contest, he elevated his professional MMA record to 9 wins, 2 losses and 1 No Contest by finishing Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju, 26, of India with a quick 21-second one-punch knockout. At “ONE: Reign of Kings,” Wiratchai will take on his biggest challenge yet when he faces Aoki.
