ONE Championship has announced the complete fight card for “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” which will take place at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China on July 7, 2018. The first bout of the evening will be between Adrian “Papua Badboy” Mattheis, 25, of Jakarta, Indonesia and Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan, 27, of Iloilo, Philippines.
Mattheis and Catalan will compete in the strawweight division. Currently reigning as the ONE Strawweight World Champion is Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 34, of Chiba, Japan.
Currently, Mattheis holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 5 wins and 3 losses. He is competing in ONE Championship for the ninth time at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens.”
On the other hand, Catalan has 6 wins and 4 losses. His upcoming strawweight bout against Mattheis will be his fifth ONE Championship bout.
Catalan’s older brothers Rene “D’ Challenger” Catalan, 39, and Rabin “The Rock” Catalan, 32, also compete in ONE Championship. Rene and Thai fighters Dejdamrong “Kru Rong” Sor Amnuaysirichoke, 39, and Kritsada “Dream Man” Kongsrichai, 26, are the only three fighters to defeat Mattheis in the promotion.
Robin is looking forward to ending his two-bout losing streak. The Filipino figher was knocked out by Kongsrichai and Amnuaysirichoke at “ONE: Quest for Greatness” on August 18, 2017 and at “ONE: Iron Will” on March 24, 2018, respectively.
If Catalan wins at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” he will end Mattheis’s winning streak in ONE Championship. The Indonesia contender defeated his three most recent opponents namely Phat Soda of Cambodia, Eddy “The Clown” Kalai of Malaysia and Lan Ming Qiang, 24, of China.
“ONE: Battle for the Heavens” will be headlined by Yodcherry Sityodtong, 19, of Thailand and Kai Ting “Killer Bee” Chuang, 23, of Taiwan, who will compete for the inaugural ONE Super Series Kickboxing Atomweight World Championship. It will be the 10th bout of the evening.
