Matthew “Sobek” Semper, 28, of Bronx, New York is ready to make his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior” on June 29, 2018. He had his face-off with his opponent Elliot “The Dragon” Compton, 29, of Brisbane, Australia during the press conference on June 27, 2018.
Semper and Compton will battle it out in a kickboxing contest in the lightweight division. It will be one of the three matches on the ONE Super Series card at “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior,” which will take place at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
“I have total respect for my opponent, Elliot Compton,” Semper stated. “We have never trained together, but we have many friends and training partners in common. I think this is going to be a great matchup for us and I believe this Muay Thai bout inside the ONE Championship cage will be extraordinary.”
“We have both put time in the game and it’s a good win on both records in my eyes,” the Bronx native added. “I am honored to be making my ONE debut in Yangon, in front of some of the greatest martial arts fans in the world, and I can’t wait to showcase my skills on 29 June.”
In collaboration with Telenor Myanmar, ONE Championship conducted the “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior” press conference at the Pullman Yangon Centrepoint Hotel in Yangon. ONE Championship chief commercial officer Jack Lim and Telenor Myanmar chief financial officer Yin Yin Htay attended the event.
Compton is looking to redeem himself at “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior” after losing to Cosmo “Good Boy” Alexandre, 35, of Brazil at “ONE: Heroes of Honor” on April 20, 2018. Watch the Muay Thai match between Compton and Alexandre here:
