On July 27, 2018, Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon, 26, of the United States and Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju, 26, of India will compete at “ONE: Reign of Kings” in the Philippines. They will battle it out in the lightweight division.
All ONE Championship events in the Philippines take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila. “ONE: Reign of Kings” is the third among the four events scheduled to take place in the country in 2018.
“ONE: Reign of Kings” marks Tonon’s second bout in ONE Championship as professional mixed martial artist. After a successful career as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend, he made his debut as an MMA fighter in the promotion on March 24, 2018 at “ONE: Iron Will” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
Before “ONE: Iron Will,” Tonon competed in a submission-only Grappling Super-Match against Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan at “ONE: Dynasty of Heroes” on May 26, 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. After 7 minutes and 47 seconds, the American martial artist submitted his Japanese opponent via heel hook.
At “ONE: Iron Will,” Tonon knocked out Richard “Lion Heart” Corminal, 36, of the Philippines and Malaysia via punches and elbows. The American contender is looking to earn his second ONE Champion victory at “ONE: Reign of Kings.”
On the other hand, Raju currently has 5 wins and 2 losses. He made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Iron Will” where he was knocked out by Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai, 29, of Thailand.
The first two events of the promotion in the country in 2018 were “ONE: Global Superheroes” on January 26, 2018 and “ONE: Heroes of Honor” on April 20, 2018. Headlining “ONE: Reign of Kings” are Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of the Philippines and Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam, who will compete for the ONE Interim Bantamweight World Championship.
