Founded in 1993 and based in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is currently the number one mixed martial arts organization in the world. Coming in a close second is ONE Championship, a martial arts organization founded in 2011 and headquartered in Singapore.
According to Renzo Gracie, 51, of Brazil, this will change in the near future. During the “ONE: Reign of Kings” press conference at the City of Dreams Manila in Parañaque, Metro Manila, Philippines on July 24, 2018, he described ONE Championship as “an amazing company” and predicted that the organization “will be number one very soon.”
Dana White has been serving as the president of the UFC since 2001. On the other hand, Chatri Sityodtong is the founder, chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, which holds the largest sports and entertainment events across Asia and is broadcasting to more than 1.7-billion potential viewers across 136 countries around the world.
“ONE Championship makes one of the best shows in the world,” Gracie said. “That’s why I’m feeling so privileged to be fighting in ONE Championship and in Manila.”
Respected in both fields of mixed martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a pioneer, elite athlete and fearless competitor, Gracie will show the world what he is capable of in ONE Championship. Coming out of retirement, he will compete in the cage for the last time.
A welterweight bout between Gracie and Yuki “Sora” Kondo, 43, of Japan will be one of the two co-main events of “ONE: Reign of Kings,” which will take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila on July 27, 2018. It will also be the final bout of the Japanese contender.
“I have been preparing a long time for this,” Gracie said. “I would like to thank Chatri Sityodtong and ONE Championship for the opportunity, for giving me the global stage once again, and for allowing me to satisfy my craving for competition. This one is for the fans.”
