Featuring 11 bouts, “ONE: Reign of Kings” is the third of the four ONE Championship events scheduled in the Philippines in 2018. On the fight card were eight mixed martial arts bouts and three matches under the promotion’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.

The press conference for “ONE: Reign of Kings” took place at the City of Dreams Manila in Paranaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines on July 24, 2018. The fight night took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila on July 27, 2018.

The second bout of the evening was an MMA bout between Rene “The Challenger” Catalan, 39, of Iloilo, Philippines and Stefer “The Lion” Rahardian, 31, of Jakarta, Indonesia. They competed in the strawweight division.

Catalan emerged as an early crowd favorite, bringing the Mall of Asia Arena crowd to their feet with a rousing performance. Over the course of three rounds, the Filipino martial arts veteran exhibited dynamic striking, feints, sweeping low leg kicks and a powerful left hook that had his highly regarded Indonesian opponent in trouble on multiple occasions.

After three five-minute rounds, the strawweight bout between Catalan and Rahardian was left to the hands of the three cageside judges. Catalan had his hand raised by referee Olivier Coste as the winner via unanimous decision.

By defeating Rahardian at “ONE: Reign of Kings,” Catalan improved his professional MMA record to 5 wins, 2 losses and 1 No Contest. Now riding a five-bout winning streak, he is the first fighter to defeat Rahardian.

The only two fighters to defeat Catalan were former ONE Strawweight World Champions Alex “Little Rock” Silva, 35, of Brazil and Dejdamrong Sor “Kru Rong” Amnuaysirichoke, 39, of Thailand. The Filipino fighter was submitted by Silva via armbar at “ONE: Kings and Champions” on April 5, 2013 and was knocked out by Amnuarysirichoke via knee at “ONE: Warrior’s Way” on December 5, 2014.

Losing to Catalan downgraded Rahardian’s record to 9 wins and 1 loss. “ONE: Reign of Kings” marked his eighth bout in ONE Championship.
