Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines is competing for ONE Strawweight World Championship for the second time. He is representing Team Lakay, which was founded by the team’s head coach Mark Sangiao.
“I have worked extremely hard with my team, with my coach, on developing a fight-winning strategy for this Saturday night,” Pacio said of Team Lakay and Sangiao. “All that’s left is for me to execute.”
On October 7, 2016, Pacio competed for ONE Strawweight World Championship for the first time. He failed to capture the title after losing to the reigning champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 34, of Matsudo, Chiba, Japan at “ONE: State of Warriors” at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
On September 22, 2018, Pacio and Naito will have their rematch at “ONE: Conquest of Heroes” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Filipino challenger said, “I have waited two long years for this, working on my skills every single day and improving with every bout.”
“This is no doubt the biggest fight of my professional career,” Pacio stated. “I am a completely different fighter now compared to before when we first met. I think I will surprise him a lot with how much I have changed.”
On September 20, 2018, Pacio and Naito had their faceoff at the “ONE: Conquest of Heroes” media open workout at the Jakarta Muaythai & MMA Gym in Jakarta. The Team Lakay fighter said, “Winning the world title means a lot to me.”
“It will give me a chance to provide a better life for myself and for my family,” Pacio added. “I have only victory on my mind in this bout.”
With a professional mixed martial arts record of 12 wins and 2 losses, Pacio is now riding a three-bout winning streak. Here is a clip of the La Trinidad native and his fellow Team Lakay fighters:
