Representing Team Lakay of Baguio City, Philippines, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, is in deep training for his second encounter against reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38. The Filipino mixed martial artist, who hails from Kiangan, Ifugao, Philippines, is the reigning ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion.

Filipino judoka John Baylon, 52, and former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, are working with Belingon for the Ifugao native’s upcoming rematch with Fernandes. According to Belingon, training is going really well and he has the entire Team Lakay with him as he works on his wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu.

“What we do is go down from the mountains to train with Coach John Baylon,” Belingon shared. “We do the basics, gather what we can use in actual bouts, and then go back to Baguio to do it all over again. We trim down what can be used for our contests and what not.”

“It’s so hard to roll with Coach John,” the reigning ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion continued. “He’s difficult to control, and his technique is on another level. Despite his age, he’s very strong and is very flexible.”

Folayang is also instrumental to fine-tuning Belingon’s ground game. The former recently spent a month in the United States to sharpen his grappling and striking skills.

“We, at Team Lakay, would usually get submitted by Coach John,” Belingon revealed. “Other than that, Eduard Folayang has also brought in new techniques he learned from his training camp in the U.S.”

Holding the ONE Bantamweight World Champion title since October 18, 2013, Fernandes is the longest running world champion of ONE Championship with seven successful title defenses. His fourth challenger since holding the title was Belingon.

On January 23, 2016, Belingon lost to Belingon via kimura submission at “ONE: Dynasty of Champions 5” at the Helong Stadium in Changsha, Hunan, China. On November 9, 2018, the two will have their rematch in the co-main event of “ONE: Heart of the Lion” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.

Belingon worked his way back to the top since that fateful night as he is currently riding a six-bout winning streak against top-tier competition. In his most recent outing, he defeated Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam, who was making an attempt to earn his third division title.

Unlike Nguyen, however, Fernandes is considered a much more dangerous foe on the ground. With this in mind, the entire of Team Lakay is working together to improve Belingon’s grappling before the rematch.
