Anthony Engelen returns to ONE Championship; Dutch-Indonesian fighter to face Meas Meul at ‘ONE: Heart of the Lion’ in Singapore

After almost two years, Anthony “The Archangel” Engelen, 33, is returning to ONE Championship. Fighting out of Ermelo, Gelderland, Netherlands, the Dutch-Indonesian mixed martial artist is scheduled to compete at “ONE: Heart of the Lion” against a Cambodian opponent.

Featuring nine MMA bouts and five ONE Super Series contests, “ONE: Heart of the Lion” will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on November 9, 2018. In the first bout of the evening, Engelen will compete in an MMA match in the featherweight division against Meas Meul, 27, of Cambodia.

The last time Engelen competed in ONE Championship was on January 14, 2017. He knocked out A.J. “Pyro” Lias Mansor via punch in the first round at “ONE: Quest for Power” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

After the victory against Lias Mansor, Engelen suffered two consecutive losses in two different promotions. On March 24, 2018, the Dutch-Indonesian MMA fighter was submitted by Duan van Helvoirt via rear-naked choke in the first round at “WFL MMA 2” at the Topsport Center in Almere, Flevoland, Netherlands.

On May 11, 2018, Engelen made his debut in Bahrain-based MMA promotion Brave Combat Federation. He was submitted by Akhmed Magomedov of Dagestan, Russia via rear-naked choke at “Brave 12: KHK Legacy” at Balai Saribini in Jakarta, Indonesia.

“ONE: Heart of the Lion” will mark Engelen’s sixth bout in ONE Championship. It will be his fourth victory in the promotion if he defeats Meul.

Currently, Engelen hold a professional MMA record of 6 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Meul has 5 wins and 2 losses.

Like Engelen, Meul is also coming out of two consecutive losses. The Cambodian contender was knocked out by Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly at “ONE: Global Superheroes” on January 26, 2018.

On May 18, 2018, Meul faced  Xie Chao of China at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The Chinese contender knocked out his Cambodian opponent via punches in the third round.
