Fighting out of Kanagawa, Japan, Shuya “Stealth” Kamikubo, 25, has earned his second victory in ONE Championship. On November 9, 2018, the Japanese mixed martial artist defeated his Malaysian opponent at at “ONE: Heart of the Lion.”
Taking place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore, “ONE: Heart of the Lion” featured nine MMA bouts, three Muay Thai fights and one kickboxing contest. In the third bout of the evening, Aiman and Kamikubo competed in an MMA match the bantamweight division.
After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight bout between Aiman and Kamikubo was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, referee Olivier Coste raised the hand of the Japanese contender, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
On July 7, 2018, Kamikubo made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens” at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China. He knocked out “The Terminator” Sunoto, 33, of Jakarta, Indonesia in the bantamweight division at 3:54 of the second round.
Before joining ONE Championship, Kamikubo competed in various promotions including Deep and Pancrase. He is now riding a five-bout winning streak.
The last time Kamikubo lost in a professional MMA bout was on September 23, 2015. The Kanagawa native lost via unanimous decision to Jun “Seitei” Doi, 32, of Kyoto, Japan at “Tribe Tokyo Fight Challenge 05.”
Now holding a professional MMA record of 9 wins and 1 loss, Kamikubo was one of the three fighters who represented Japan at “ONE: Heart of the Lion.” The other two were Kota “Genjin” Shimoishi, 31, of Osaka and Kazuki Tokudome, 31, of Tokyo.
In the ninth bout of the evening, Shimoishi lost to Adrian “The Hunter” Pang, 41, of Australia and Papua New Guinea in an MMA lightweight bout via technical knockout due to doctor’s stoppage in the first round. In the co-main event, Tokudome was knocked out by Christian “The Warrior” Lee, 20, of Singapore via strikes in an MMA catch weight of 73 kg in the first round.
