Alexandre Machado vs Hideki Sekine

Featuring eight mixed martial arts matches, two Muay Thai bouts and two kickboxing contests, “ONE: Conquest of Champions” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It was the fourth and last ONE Championship event to be held in the country in 2018.

In the fifth bout of the evening, Machado competed in the heavyweight division against Hideki “Shrek” Sekine, 45, of Shizuoka, Japan. The two are both former ONE World Title contenders.

Machado returned to his winning ways with a spectacular second-round stoppage victory over Sekine. Taken down with a flurry of effective slams, the Brazilian fighter survived a strong first round from the Japanese grappler in the first round.

In the second round, Machado showcased his striking superiority as he hammered Sekine with a barrage of heavy punches to claim the technical knockout. Olivier Coste raised the hand of the Rio de Janeiro native as the winner.

Winning at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” improved Machado’s professional MMA record to 9 wins and 3 losses. The Brazilian fighter earned his first ONE Championship win on August 13, 2016 when he defeated Alain “The Panther” Ngalani, 43, of Cameroon and Hong Kong via technical knockout via submission to punches at “ONE: Heroes of the World” at the Cotai Arena in Cotai, Macau, China.

After “ONE: Conquest of Champions,” the Philippines now has five reigning world champions in ONE Championship. Based in Singapore, the martial arts promotion was founded by Chatri Sityodtong and Victor Cui in 2011.
