The Republic of Fiji is an island country in Oceania. Located in Melanesia, the country has two major islands namely Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Fiji achieved its independence from the United Kingdom on October 10, 1970 and became a republic on October 7, 1987. On October 13, 1970, Fiji was admitted to the United Nations.

Jioji Konrote, 71, is the incumbent president of Fiji. He assumed office on November 12, 2015.
