The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is an island country in North America. Located in the Caribbean, the country shares maritime boundaries with Barbados to the northeast, Grenada to the northwest and Venezuela to the south and west.
Trinidad and Tobago is known for its African and Indian cultures. The country gained its independence from the United Kingdom on August 31, 1962, was admitted to the United Nations on September 18, 1962 and became a republic on August 1, 1976.
Paula-Mae Weekes, 60, is the incumbent and sixth president of Trinidad and Tobago. He assumed office on March 19, 2018.
