A new character will be introduced in “Riverdale” Season 3 episode 11 titled “Chapter Forty-Six: The Red Dahlia,” which will air on The CW on January 30, 2019. Kelly Ripa will play a mistress of the character played by her husband Mark Consuelos.
In July 2018, Ripa moderated the “Riverdale” panel at San Diego Comic Con. After the event, Consuelos told Us Weekly that he wanted his wife to join The CW series as his character Hiram Lodge’s “mistress or something like that.”
According to Consuelos, it was “Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa who made it all happen. Ripa is playing Hiram’s alleged mistress Mrs. Mulwray, who will be introduced in “Chapter Forty-Six: The Red Dahlia.”
Mrs. Mulwray is described as a confident, tough, beautiful and icy femme fatale. She gets involved in a conspiracy that is much bigger than she initially thought.
Ripa and Consuelos co-starred in “All My Children” in 1995 and got married in 1996. They have three children named Michael Consuelos, Lola Consuelos and Joaquin Consuelos.
Michael played the teenage version of Hiram in a flashback on “Riverdale” Season 3 episode 4 titled “Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Midnight Club.” The episode aired on The CW on November 7, 2018.
The name of Ripa’s character in “Riverdale” is reminiscent of Evelyn Mulwray, Faye Dunaway’s character in the 1974 film “Chinatown” which earned her a Best Actress nomination from the Academy Awards. Evelyn was a femme fatale involved in a conspiracy that was out of her control.
On “Chapter Forty-Six: The Red Dahlia,” Mrs. Mulwray will come face to face with Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). The gang will work together to get to the bottom of the latest mystery in Riverdale after one of their own becomes the target of an unseen assailant.
To piece together clues about a series of deaths in the town, Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) will work with a surprising ally. Meanwhile, Archie Andrews (K.J. Apa) will set out on a new path.
Bruce Blain is also making his “Riverdale” return. His character Vic, which appeared in two episodes in 2017, will be seen again on “Chapter Forty-Six: The Red Dahlia.”
Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols), Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), Kevin Keller (Casey Cott), Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton), FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich), Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick), Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro), Swear Pea (Jordan Connor), Fangs Fogarty (Drew Ray Tanner) and Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) will appear in “Chapter Forty-Six: The Red Dahlia.” New characters Laura (Brittany Willacy) and Toby (Scott Pocha) will also be featured in the episode.
Devon Turner and Will Ewing co-wrote “Chapter Forty-Six: The Red Dahlia,” which was directed by Greg Smith. Watch the teaser here:
