Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli, 35, of Italy was one of the winners at “ONE: Reign of Valor.” It was the first victory of the Italian mixed martial artist in ONE Championship.
Featuring nine MMA matches and five ONE Super Series contests, which were kickboxing bouts, “ONE: Reign of Valor” is the first ONE Championship event in 2019 held in Myanmar. It took place at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on March 8, 2019.
In the 12th bout of the evening, Cerilli faced Alain “The Panther” Ngalani, 43, of Hong Kong in an MMA match in the heavyweight division with Olivier Coste as the referee. The Italian contender made quick work of his Hong Kong-based Cameroonian opponent.
At the sound of the opening bell, the two warriors met each other head-on at the center of the ONE Championship cage. Cerilli quickly secured underhooks against the fence and then executed an overhead slam, sapping the energy from Ngalani.
From the reverse headlock position, Cerilli then delivered a symphony of knees to force Coste to call a halt to the contest. The Italian fighter knocked out Ngalani via strikes at 2 minutes and 30 seconds in the first round.
Winning at “ONE: Reign of Valor” improved Cerilli’s professional MMA record to 13 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Ngalani now has 4 wins, 5 losses and 1 No Contest.
It was a redemptive win for Cerilli. He was coming out of a loss to reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera, 41, of the Philippines.
On November 23, 2018, Cerilli made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines where he challenged Vera. The Filipino-American defending champion knocked out the Italian challenger via punch in the first round.
