Jose Marie Borja Viceral, 42, and Jonathan Anthony Solis Lapus, 45, whose respective screen names are Vice Ganda and John Lapus took to social media to pay tribute to their fellow comedian Jonathan Aguilar Garcia, who was professionally known as Chokoleit. On March 9, 2019, Chokoleit died of heart attack at the age of 46.
In 2018, Ganda and Chokoleit co-starred in the Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Fantastica.” Directed by Barry Gonzalez, the fantasy comedy film also starred Richard Gutierrez, Dingdong Dantes, Bela Padilla, Jaclyn Jose, Maymay Entrata, Edward barber, Loisa Andalio, Ronnie Alonte, Kisses Delavin, Donny Pangilinan, Johnny Revilla, MC Calaquian, Lassy and Ryan Bang, among others.
While Ganda tweeted about his friendship with Chokoleit, Lapus shared on Instagram a video of himself with the late comedian during the 2019 New Year celebration of their talent agency Star Magic. Also in the video are Piolo Pascual, 42, and Marietta Subong, 48, who is professionally known as Pokwang.
In 2017, a video of Chokoleit torridly kissing another man went viral. Lapus was one of the celebrities who defended the late comedian.
“Uy, mabait na tao si Chokoleit,” (Hey, Chokoleit is a good person.) Lapus told PEP. “Kung makikilala niyo lang siya, sobrang mabait na tao ‘yan kaya deserved niyang malaplap, may video man o wala.” (If you get to really know him, he is a very kind person so he deserved to be kissed torridly with or without a video.)
Chokoleit was performing at a show in the annual celebration of the Kawayan Festival in Bangued, Abra, Philippines hours before his death. Here is the full video of his performance:
