Training out of Conqueror’s Gym Fight Camp, Jason “Python” Vergara, 22, is one of the Filipino mixed martial artists set to compete at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 15, 2019. He will face Hussain “Iron” Ayyad, 25, of Bahrain in the bantamweight division.
“Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” is the first Philippine event of Bahrain-based MMA promotion Brave Combat Federation. On February 18, 2018, the promotion inked a deal with Philippine television network TV5 during a press conference at the TV5 Media Center in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.
During the event, Vergara said he is both nervous and excited about “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” In a short interview, I asked him to give a message to Ayyad.
Vergara’s response was short and sweet. To his Bahraini opponent, the Conqueror’s Gym Fight Camp athlete simply said, “Good luck.”
Some MMA fighters have specific predictions prior to a fight while others embrace the uncertainty of things. Vergara is one of the latter.
Based on what Vergara has seen of Ayyad, the Filipino fighter acknowledges that wrestling could be his Bahraini opponent’s strength. When I asked the Filipino contender about his prediction for “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors,” he said, “Hindi ko po sure kung ano’ng round kami matatapos pero ibibigay ko na lang po lahat ng makakaya ko (I am not sure which round we will end but I will just give everything that I can).”
Currently, Vergara holds a professional MMA record of 3 wins and 1 loss. He is making his Brave CF debut at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.”
On the other hand, “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” marks Ayyad’s fourth Brave CF bout. Training out of KHK MMA, he won two of his three previous bouts in the promotion and he currently has 2 wins and 2 losses overall.
