Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation held the “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” press conference on March 15, 2019 at the Newport Mall in Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. During the event, I asked the four Filipino mixed martial artists on the panel one question related to the upcoming Philippine general election 2019.
“Would you accept an offer to endorse a political candidate or would you rather stay out of politics and focus on sports?” I asked. Rolando Gabriel “Dy Incredible” Dy, 28, Jeremy “The Juggernaut” Pacatiw, 22, and Mark “The Ruthless” Alcoba, 27, unanimously said they would rather stay out of politics and explained it differently but they all hinted that politics is complicated and dirty.
But reigning Brave CF Bantamweight Champion Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23, see it differently. He has no problem promoting a political candidate but there is one condition, or to be more politically correct, one requirement; the candidate must be an advocate for sports.
On May 13, 2019, Filipino voters will select 12 senators. All seats in the House of Representatives of the Philippines will also be contested.
The winners of the midterm election will take office on June 30, 2019. This is midway the term of President Rodrigo Duterte, who recently met with Brave CF founder His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
“We are very proud of our close links with the Kingdom of Bahrain, which has developed through the years,” Duterte stated after his meeting with the Bahraini prince. “Your Highness’s visit opens new horizons for collaboration between both countries and serves for the development of our ties. Hosting ‘Brave 22’ is part of our cooperation in supporting a promotion which is making its way towards the global stage.”
Taking place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on March 15, 2019, “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” is the first Brave CF event to take place in the Philippines. In the main event, Loman will defend his title from former Brave CF Featherweight Champion Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame, 25, of France.
