Former ONE World Title contender Eric “The Natural” Kelly, 36, of the Philippines is returning to the ONE Championship stage. He will face Tang Kai, 23, of China at “ONE: Roots of Honor” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 12, 2019.
Kelly had a blazing start to his mixed martial arts career by winning his first 12 professional bouts. On February 2, 2013, he competed for the inaugural ONE Featherweight World Title but fell short against Filipino compatriot Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 29, who trains out of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines.
On July 11, 2014, Kelly came back and put together the performance of a lifetime when he submitted a tough opponent, Rob “Ruthless” Lisita, 36, of Sydney New South Wales, Australia. Now after revitalizing his training camp, the Filipino MMA veteran looks to reignite his career against Tang at “ONE: Roots of Honor.”
A WBK Tournament Champion, Tang is a boxing stylist known for his fast hands and aggressiveness. Training out of Dragon Warrior Shanghai in Shanghai, China, he won his last four bouts, all of which have ended in explosive knockouts.
Tang’s striking skills will be put to the ultimate test against a veteran like Kelly at “ONE: Roots of Honor.” It will be the Chinese contender’s second outing in ONE Championship and the Filipino fighter’s 12th outing in the promotion.
