South Korean musician, host and actor Jung Joon Young, 30, is accused of illegally sharing sexually explicit videos of women that were secretly recorded. He was arrested on March 21, 2019 in Seoul, South Korea.
Jung allegedly filmed 10 women while having sex with them without their knowledge or consent and uploaded the videos to a group chat room of the mobile instant messaging application KakaoTalk, which he shares with eight male celebrities, CEOs and non-celebrity friends. If proven guilty, he could receive a sentence of up to seven years and six months.
Also, Jung could be charged of soliciting prostitution, lawyer Oh Soo Jin explained in the “Section TV” episode aired on March 18, 2019. The law in 2015 and 2016 when the crime was committed punishes illegally filming and sharing explicit videos with a maximum sentence of five years while the solicitation of prostitution could be punished with a maximum sentence of seven years and six months, the lawyer added.
Because of the arrest, the opening of Maison de Corée, a Korean restaurant in Paris, France co-owned by Jung, has been cancelled, E-Daily reported. He owns 50 percent of the shares.
Born on February 21, 1989 in South Korea to Jung Hak Chun and Choi Jong Sook, Joon Young grew up in various countries including France, China, Indonesia and the Philippines. Aside from Korean, Joon Young also speaks English and Chinese fluently.
In 2006, Joon Young did missionary work in the Philippines, where he taught music to Filipino children. A fourth-degree black belt in taekwondo, he also taught them taekwondo.
In 2012, Joon Young finished third in the Mnet reality television talent show “Superstar K4.” In 2013, he joined the KBS variety show “2 Days and 1 Night” Season 3, becoming the youngest member of the show.
From 2014 to 2015, Joon Young hosted a radio show titled “Jung Joon Young’s Simsimtapa” on MBC FM. From 2015 to 2019, he was the lead vocalist of rock band Drug Restaurant, which was previously known as JJY Band.
As an actor, Joon Young played Yeom Hyo Bong/Andrew in the 2015 film “Love Forecast.” He also appeared in the 2016 TV series “The Sound of Heart.”
