Agusan del Sur is one of the five provinces of the Caraga Administrative Region of the Philippines. The others are Agusan del Norte, the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur.

Santiago Barriga Cane Jr. served as the vice governor of Agusan del Sur from June 30, 2007 to June 30, 2016 and will assume office as the governor of the province on June 30, 2019. Born in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, he turned 61 on February 2, 2019.

Bayugan is the only component city in Agusan del Norte. The province has 13 municipalities namely Bunawan, Esperanza, La Paz, Loreto, Prosperidad, Rosario, San Francisco, San Luis, Santa Josefa, Sibagat, Talacogon, Trento and Veruela.

On April 14, 2013, Grace Yann Apuad represented Prosperidad at Binibining Pilipinas 2013 and competed against 49 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She finished in the Top 15.
