Aklan is one of the five provinces of the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. The others are Antique, Capiz, Guimaras and Iloilo.

Founded on April 25, 1956, Aklan has 17 municipalities namely Altavas, Balete, Banga, Batan, Buruanga, Ibajay, Kalibo, Lezo, Libacao, Madalag, Makato, Malay, Malina,o Nabas, New Washington, Numancia and Tangalan. Collectively, these municipalities have 327 barangays.

Florencio “Joeben” Tumbocon Miraflores was born in Ibajay to Dr. Jose Conlu Miraflores and Eusebia Tumbocon. Joeben served as the mayor of Ibajay from June 30, 1988 to June 30, 1995, the governor of Aklan from June 30, 1995 to June 30, 2004 and the congressman of the province from June 30, 2004 to June 30, 2013.
