Apayao is one of the six provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region of the Philippines, which also has one independent city called Baguio. The other provinces are Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province.
On June 18, 1966, Mountain Province was divided into four provinces namely Benguet, Mountain Province, Kalinga-Apayao and Ifugao. On February 14, 1995, Kalinga-Apayao was divided into two provinces namely Kalinga and Apayao.
Born in Baguio, Elias Cayaba Bulut Jr. will turn 49 on May 15, 2019. He assumed office as the governor of Apayao on June 30, 2010 and will assume office as the congressman of the province on June 30, 2019.

Apayao has seven municipalities namely Calanasan, Conner, Flora, Kabugao, Luna, Pudtol and Santa Marcela. The province has a total of 133 barangays, 21 of which are in Kabugao, the capital of the province.
Eleonor Cayaba Bulut was the mayor of Calanasan from June 30, 2001 to June 30, 2010. She assumed office as the congresswoman of Apayao on June 30, 2010 and will assume office as the governor of the province on June 30, 2019.
On November 14, 2008, Kate Lao represented Apayao at Turismo Pilipina 2008 and competed against 55 other candidates at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.
