On June 18, 1966, Mountain Province, Philippines was divided into four provinces namely Benguet, Mountain Province, Kalinga-Apayao and Ifugao. On February 14, 1995, Kalinga-Apayao was divided into two provinces namely Kalinga and Apayao.
Benguet covers an area of 2,769.08 square kilometers. The province is home to Mount Pulag, the third highest mountain in the Philippines.

Baguio is geographically located in Benguet but the city is independent from the province. The province has 13 municipalities namely Atok, Bakun, Bokod, Buguias, Itogon, Kabayan, Kapangan, Kibungan, La Trinidad, Mankayan, Sablan, Tuba and Tublay.
Collectively, the 13 municipalities in Benguet have 140 barangays. A total of 16 of these are in La Trinidad, the capital of the province.
Benguet is one of the six provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region. The others are Abra, Apayao, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province.
Hailing from Lomon, Kapangan, Roderick Dilla Salvador represented the Philippines at Mister World 2000 and competed against 31 other candidates at the Crieff Hydro Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, United Kingdom on October 13, 2000. He was unplaced.
On October 7, 2018, Joemay-an Leo represented the Cordillera Administrative Region at Miss World Philippines 2018 and competed against 39 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.
