Compostela Valley is one of the five provinces in the Davao Region of the Philippines. The others are Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental and Davao Oriental.

The Davao Region used to be a province called Davao, which was established after the dissolution of the Moro Province on July 23, 1914. On May 8, 1967, the province of Davao was divided into three provinces namely Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental and Davao del Sur.
On June 17, 1972, Davao del Norte was renamed Davao. On January 31, 1998, it was divided into two provinces namely Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte and from March 8, 1998 to March 26, 1998, Prospero Sybico Amatong served as the first governor of Compostela Valley.
Born in Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines, Amatong turned 77 on October 18, 2008 and died in New York City, New York, United States on May 16, 2009. On October 28, 2013, five of the 14 municipalities of Davao del Sur officially became a province called Davao Occidental.
On May 19, 2018, Princess Faye Fernandez represented Laak, Compostela Valley at Miss Earth Philippines 2018 and competed against 41 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.
