The Soccsksargen region of the Philippines has four provinces namely South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani and one city named General Santos. Cotabato is formerly referred to as North Cotabato.

Kidapawan is the capital and the only city of Cotabato. The province has 25 municipalities including Alamada, Aleosan, Antipas, Arakan, Banisilan, Carmen, Kabacan, Kadayangan, Kapalawan, Libungan, Ligawasan, M’lang, Magpet, Makilala, Malidegao, Matalam, Midsayap, Nabalawag, Old Kaabakan, Pahamuddin, Pigcawayan, Pikit, President Roxas, Tugunan and Tulunan.
Tulunan native Mary Jean Lastimosa represented Cotabato at Binibining Pilipinas 2011, ranked fifth and was named the second runner-up. Representing Davao City, Philippines, she finished in the Top 12 at Bb. Pilipinas 2012.
On March 30, 2014, Lastimosa represented Cotabato at Bb. Pilipinas 2014 and competed against 39 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She ranked first and was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2014.
