Dagupan is known as the milkfish capital of the Philippines. Since 2002, the city has been celebrating the Bangus Festival.

While Dagupan is geographically located in Pangasinan, Philippines, the city is independent from the province, which has six congressional districts. The fourth district consists of Dagupan and the municipalities of Manaoag, Mangaldan, San Fabian and San Jacinto.

Born in Dagupan, Jose Claveria de Venecia Jr. turned 82 on December 26, 2018. He was the congressman of Pangasinan’s fourth district from 1987 to 1998 and from 2001 to 2010.

On June 20, 1947, Dagupan officially became a city. The city has 31 barangays.

On March 3, 1991, Maria Corazon Carretero represented Dagupan at Binibining Pilipinas 1991 and competed against 32 other candidates at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.

On June 9, 2006, Maria Jerese Guadiz dela Cruz represented Dagupan at Mutya ng Pilipinas 2006 and competed against 23 other candidates at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Theater in Quezon City. She was unplaced.

On August 16, 2014, Cynthia Caldona represented Dagupan at Miss Grand Philippines 2014 and competed against 16 other candidates at the GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center in Quezon City. She finished in the Top 10.
